Behind the Scenes: Creating a Hilarious, Fake Conspiracy Theory Video
Sometimes, as a creative video production team, we just need to step away from the usual client work and let our imaginations run wild. That's exactly what we did for our latest passion project—an offbeat and satirical video where we playfully dive into the world of conspiracy theories... by making up our own!
The Concept: Becoming Conspiracy Theorists (Sort of)
We’ve all heard the wild theories floating around on Reddit and YouTube about hidden secrets and cover-ups. But we decided to take it one step further: instead of rehashing old conspiracies, why not invent our own outrageous theory? The twist? It's all completely fabricated, purely for comedic purposes.
The premise: What if the Founding Fathers—those iconic figures we all learned about in history class—weren’t exactly who we thought they were? What bizarre secrets might they be hiding behind those powdered wigs and stoic portraits? Spoiler alert: absolutely none of it is true, but that's what makes it so fun!
Pre-Production: Crafting the Perfect "Theory"
To make the project as hilarious as possible, we started by brainstorming the most absurd theories we could think of. Our team huddled around a whiteboard, pitching wild ideas that had us in stitches. Did George Washington have a secret life as an alien diplomat? Was Thomas Jefferson secretly a time traveler from the future trying to influence history? And what if Ben Franklin’s kite experiment was actually a covert attempt to harness supernatural powers?
Once we had a few concepts locked in, we scripted the video with the tone of a dramatic conspiracy documentary—but with a heavy dose of satire. We wanted it to feel like a mix between a History Channel special and a late-night comedy sketch.
Production: Channeling Our Inner (Fake) Conspiracy Experts
The day of filming was all about having fun and letting our creativity shine. We decided to shoot the video in a mock-documentary style, complete with shaky cameras, overly dramatic voiceovers, and “expert” interviews (played by members of our team wearing ridiculous costumes).
To really sell the satire, we set up scenes that mimicked the overly serious tone of classic conspiracy documentaries. We filmed in dimly lit rooms filled with red string diagrams, old maps, and plenty of suspicious documents. Think of it like a mashup of National Treasure and The Office.
We also used green screens to create outrageous backgrounds—like hidden underground bunkers and secret lairs. We even threw in some cheesy effects, like pixelated “leaked documents” and grainy security footage, just to crank up the absurdity.
Post-Production: Bringing the Comedy to Life
Editing this project was where everything came together. We leaned heavily into the over-the-top conspiracy vibe, adding dramatic music, voice distortions, and even fake “classified” document graphics to make it look legit... well, as legit as a completely made-up conspiracy can be.
To enhance the comedic tone, we cut in quick zooms, exaggerated sound effects, and abrupt scene changes. We also included “expert testimonials” from characters who were clearly just making stuff up on the spot. The goal was to create something that’s as entertaining as it is ridiculous.
And, of course, we made sure to include a disclaimer at the beginning and end of the video: “This video is made for comedic, satirical purposes only. None of the theories presented here are true.”
The Final Result: A Satirical Dive into Absurdity
When we released the video, we were thrilled to see the positive reactions. People loved the playful tone, the clever editing, and the sheer ridiculousness of the fake theories. It was a great reminder that sometimes it’s important to step back from serious projects and just have fun with what we do best—creating videos that make people laugh.
