Behind the Scenes: Crafting a Video for The Link’s New Building Announcement

As a video production team, we often find ourselves working on projects that not only tell a story but also aim to inspire action. Recently, we were tasked with creating a video to announce The Link’s brand-new building. The Link, an organization dedicated to providing support for youth and families, had outgrown their current space and was moving to a much larger facility. Our challenge was twofold: not only did we need to showcase the size and potential of the new space, but we also had to emphasize the need for donations to support their mission.

Understanding the Vision
Before diving into the technical aspects of production, we needed to fully understand The Link’s goals. They wanted a video that captured the excitement of the new building, while also conveying the message that the expansion comes with greater financial needs. The new facility offers the ability to serve more people, provide additional programs, and create an even larger impact in the community. However, with growth comes increased costs, and they were hoping to drive donations to support this endeavor.

Pre-Production Planning
To begin, we visited the new facility to plan our shots. The space was much larger than their previous location, and we wanted to highlight this in the video. Our aim was to create a visual journey through the building, showing off its spacious layout, new rooms, and overall potential. We made a shot list focusing on wide angles to emphasize the scale and specific areas where future programs would take place.

At the same time, we needed to make sure the message about donations didn’t get lost. We worked with The Link’s team to script key moments that would remind viewers of the organization’s needs while showing how their contributions would be put to use in the new space.

Production Day: Capturing the Story
On production day, we brought in our best gear—drones for aerial shots of the new building, gimbals for smooth walkthrough footage, and high-quality mics for interviews. We captured beautiful wide shots of the exterior and interior, making sure to contrast the vastness of the new facility with the limitations of the old one.

One of the most powerful moments in the video was an interview with a staff member from The Link. We filmed them standing in the center of an empty room in the new building, explaining how this space would be used to launch a new program for at-risk youth. This heartfelt moment helped bridge the connection between the physical space and the impact it would have on the community.

Post-Production: Weaving the Message Together
Editing is where the magic truly happens. In post-production, we carefully pieced together the footage to tell a compelling story. The transitions between the old and new buildings were designed to highlight the contrast in size, while voiceover narration emphasized the growing needs of the organization.

We also added motion graphics to reinforce the call for donations. For example, as the narrator discussed the costs associated with the expansion, we overlaid text that displayed the projected expenses and how every donation could help. The use of upbeat music helped maintain the excitement throughout the video, while softer, emotional tones were introduced during the parts focused on their need for financial support.

The Result
The final video successfully blended both the excitement of The Link’s new chapter and the call for community support. It showcased the immense potential of the new facility while reminding viewers that their contributions were essential for the organization’s future success. By the time we finished the project, we were confident that the video would not only inspire pride in The Link’s new space but also encourage donations from their supporters.

Conclusion
This project reminded us that video production is about more than just capturing beautiful shots—it’s about crafting a narrative that resonates with the audience. By aligning visuals with a clear message, we were able to create a video that told The Link’s story and invited others to become a part of it. Whether you’re showcasing a new building or driving a campaign, the key is to balance excitement with purpose, and that’s exactly what we aimed to do with The Link’s announcement video.
